The symbol of separation and the communication spot, exists the complication and peace at the same time as the space for North and South Korea

既是分裂象征又是对话的现场，纠葛与和平共存的南北共同的空间

 
At 1953 July 27th, Panmunjeom was the place that happened cease-fire agreement which is the JSA: Joint Security Area. The Cease-fire agreement was happened 1km from the current Panmunjeom, both militaries established JSA at 1953.

1953年7月27日，签署6.25战争的停战协定的板门店是在军事分界线上东西800米、南北400米的长方形‘共同警备区（JSA：Joint Security Area）’。签署停战协定的地点位于现在的板门店往开城方向大约1公里位置，但随着1953年军政委双方在军事分界线上设置共同警备区，诞生了现在的板门店。

Panmunjeom was originally named as Neolmunli. Neolmunli had small fields and small stores, but it was focused by the world when the cease-fire agreement was decided. How did Neolmunli changed as Panmunjeom? When Neolmunli was decided as cease-fire agreement, they needed to mark as Korean, English, and Chinese. When you write the Neolmun as Chinese is ‘Panmun(板門)’. Plus, they added ‘Jeom(店)’ which means the small store. So new name was born as ‘Panmunjeom(板門店)’.

板门店的原名是‘板门里’。闲置的田地与几个草屋、兼做酒家的小规模店铺为其全部的板门里，随着被定为停战协定场所，世界的耳目集中到这里。那么板门里怎么会取得‘板门店’这个名称呢？随着板门里被定为新的停战协定场所，需要作出韩国语、英语、汉语标记。NULMUN用汉字标记就是‘板门’。在这里加上板门里的小规模店铺之意的‘店’字，就诞生了‘板门店’这个新的名称。

Because it is located at the Military Demarcation Line, you have to have many steps and long time when you visit Panmunjeom. But there are people all the time who want to see the North and South Korea’s separation. Even though we can’t face the same time, but we can share the same place. Our side building has the Freedom house and the Peace house, North Korea side has Panmuhgak and Tongilgak. Behind the Peace house has ‘Never Comeback Bridge’ which had exchange of prisoners that once the prisoners go then they never comeback. This bridge was used as entrance of JSA, but it was strictly not allowed to use since 1796 which happened the Hatchet matter.

因为在军事分界线上，想要去板门店，需要比出国更多的程序与时间。但是，板门店因为想要亲眼确认南北分裂的现场的人们的脚步络绎不绝。板门店内的军士停战会谈场所是南北访客都可以去的名所。虽然在同一个时间无法互相面对，但也是可以共享相同空间的地方。我方建筑物有自由之家、和平之家，而北韩方面的建筑物有板门阁、统一阁等。和平之家后侧的‘不归桥’是南北交换俘虏的地方，因为只要遣送一次就无法再回去而得名。一段时间曾作为开城出入到共同警备区的桥梁，但于1976年发生斧头事件之后被禁止通行
