Where the story of JaeIn, who performed his risky talents, lays in the narrow rope crossing the cliff
横跨绝壁的单索上揪人心悬的表演，有才人的故事的地方
Jae-In Falls, 18.5 meters high at the entrance of Yeoncheon-gun Gamagol, is the representative venue of Yeoncheon-gun and it makes a distinctive scenery with the Hantangang River. Jae-In refers to the people of low social class who contributed to the entertainment activities of Joseon Dynasty. There are two theories about how the falls got its name. The popular theory recorded is that it got its origin from a story of a death of a Jae-In, due to the greed of a town reeve, and the chastity of the Jae-In’s wife. Once upon a time, a reeve coveted the beauty of a Jae-In’s wife. The town reeve made the entertainer walk a wire across the cliff, and killed him by cutting the wire. The reeve tried to usurp the widowed woman, but the she bit the reeve’s nose and committed suicide. Then, the waterfall was called the name ‘Jae-In Falls’. And the town that they lived was renamed as ‘Komun-ri’ (nose-bitten) and then changed to ‘Gomun-ri’ as time passed.
涟川郡加马谷入口的18.5米高的才人瀑布是涟川郡代表性名胜地，与周围的宝盖山、汉滩江形成秀丽的景致。‘才人’是朝鲜时代从事演艺活动的贱民阶级，而‘才人瀑布’的名称相传有两种由来。首先，广为人知的记录是，因为郡邑官老爷的贪欲，才人死亡及其妻子守住贞节的故事。古代有个官老爷贪婪才人妻子的美色，在该瀑布的绝壁上，让才人跳上绳索表演，中途将绳索剪断，致使才人死亡。此后，他想硬抢才人的妻子，但才人的妻子将官老爷的鼻子咬断之后自杀而亡。此后，瀑布开始被称为는‘才人瀑布’，而他们生活过的郡邑，因为才人的妻子咬断官老爷的鼻子，故称为‘Komoon-ri’，而逐渐更名为‘古文里’。
The other story is as follows. A Jae-In were playing beneath the waterfalls when the entertainer suddenly waged, to show his talent, that he could walk gracefully if he walked on a wire crossing the cliff. The villagers told the Jae-In to bet his wife in the gamble if he was that confident. As the Jae-In danced and boasted his tricks, the villagers who lost the bet disconnected the wire. The Jae-In fell to the hollows dozen feet beneath the cliff and met his death. It is told that it is since then when the falls was called ‘Jae-In Falls’. Despite these two contrasting stories, the present Jae-In Falls is a tourist attraction loved for the scenery that the pillar-shaped joint and the clear water around it create.
另一个故事如下。古代有个才人跟村里人在瀑布下面玩耍，为了炫耀自己的才能，豪言壮胆地表示自己能在瀑布绝壁之间，连接单索可以走过去。村里人说，如果真有自信，就将他的妻子作为赌注，当才人跳着舞、耍着技巧，轻松走过单索，而赌输的村里人却剪断绳索，致使才人掉到山谷而死。此后，该瀑布被称为‘才人瀑布’。相传如此相反的故事的才人瀑布，今天成为深受人们喜爱的观光名所，围绕瀑布的柱状节理与清澈而碧绿的水柱给人们展现美丽的风景。
