■ Pocheon City Travel Overview
Pocheon City has a trekking course including the Y-shaped suspension bridge of the recently opened Hantangang Ecological Landscape Complex, Pocheon Art Valley, Amazing Park, and Herb Island, a place where you can see the night view during your DMZ trip. Even if you plan to spend 1 night and 2 days here as a family trip, there are so many things to see that you will have to be busy to see them all. The main food is famous for 'Idong Galbi', the specialty 'Mushroom', and the Sondubu Village centered around Pajugol.
■ Hantangang Ecological Landscape Complex
Y-shaped swing bridge |
The Y-shaped suspension bridge built in the Hantangang Ecological Landscape Complex is 410 m long and was first opened on September 7, 2024. When you actually walk on the suspension bridge, it shakes so much that you might think, 'What if the bridge breaks?' Some tourists who use the bridge say they are scared and turn back. As it was a bridge that opened this year, I walked across it, thinking that safety would have been well taken into consideration.
Left) Pocheon Love Gift Certificate, Middle) 4-wheel bicycle, Right) Garden Festa event site |
This year, the Hantangang Garden Festa was held, and the parking lot was full of cars. If you pay the admission fee, you will be refunded with a Pocheon Love Gift Certificate. You can also rent a 4-wheeled bicycle or enjoy various food trucks such as fish cakes, tteokbokki, and drinks. I couldn't use the 4-wheeled bicycle rental because the waiting time was long.
Left) Entrance to the suspension bridge, Middle) Panoramic view of the suspension bridge, Right) Panoramic view from the top of the suspension bridge |
I have crossed the Y-shaped suspension bridge many times, but the amount of swaying was the most overwhelming. If you walk from the starting point, you can go up to the observation deck, and the view from the observation deck was spectacular. Gardens and various types of flower fields were displayed throughout the festival site, and it was bustling with people enjoying taking pictures.
Left) Sky Bridge entrance, Middle) Sky Bridge, Right) Panoramic view of Hantangang River from Sky Bridge |
For the Ecological Landscape Complex Tour, you can use the parking lot of the 'Hantan River Ecological Landscape Complex', but you can also walk to the festival site for about 30 minutes from the Pocheon Hantangang Sky Bridge Parking Lot via the Hantangang Tracking. The Hantangang Ecological Landscape Complex had ample parking space.
Left) Hantangang Riverside Trail, Middle) Hantangang Riverside, Right) Bidulginang Falls |
The Hantangang Trekking trail is well-made with trees, so you can walk along the forest path, and on a nice day, you can go down to the Hantangang River and take a rest. On the way down, you can stop by Bidulginang Falls and enjoy the view of the waterfall.

■ Art Valley
Panoramic view of Pocheon Art Valley |
Pocheon Art Valley was once a quarry where Pocheon stone was mined for buildings of major national institutions, but it was abandoned as a quarry and was reborn as an eco-friendly complex art and culture park in 2009. It is a place where you can view natural scenery and sculptures, and it is thought to be a good place to enjoy a picnic on a nice day.
Left) Pocheon Art Valley entrance, middle) monorail, right) valley seen from the monorail |
There are some people who park their cars in the parking lot and walk to trek around Pocheon Art Valley, but in the hot summer, it is recommended to use the monorail. It seems like a good idea to take the monorail up and then walk down slowly. The two monorails can hold 94 people, so you can ride more than you think, and the interval between trains seems to be about 20 minutes.
Art Valley Sculpture |
Once you reach the top, you can enjoy a leisurely walk while looking at various sculptures, and as you walk, you will reach the viewpoint at the top. When I visited, the weather was pleasant, so I could see many people resting in the shade.
Art Valley Valley Panoramic View |
You can see beautiful and well-organized rock formations that you wouldn't think of as a quarry, and there are koi swimming leisurely in the pond. It was a travel destination where you could enjoy a leisurely holiday while looking at various sights and thinking that it was well developed into a park.

■ Amazing Park
Inside the Amazing Park Science Museum |
Amazing Park, which is inspired by science, is a space where you can experience the principles of several gears by turning them with your hands, and if you cross the 130m suspension bridge, you can go to the pine forest playground, which provides a different experience for children who live on asphalt. Amazing Swing is a 4.5m swing that moves back and forth while avoiding water streams, and it goes up higher than you think, so I felt sick after getting off.
Left) Suspension bridge, Middle) Healing Forest, Right) Zipline |
A zipline is a ride that is slightly different from a zipline in that it descends from the top and then rises back up again with the power of a motor, making it an ride that both adults and children can enjoy.
Exhibits inside the science museum |
Inside the science museum, gears of various shapes and their operating principles are on display. Even to me, who dreamed of becoming a scientist, the principles of the gears seemed fascinating.

■ Herb Island
Panoramic view of the Pink Muhly Festival |
Herb Island is a travel destination I visited once about ten years ago, and while searching for travel destination information, I found out that it was open at night, so I planned to visit in the evening and see the night view. When traveling around DMZ, I was disappointed that there weren't many tourist attractions that could be enjoyed at night, but when traveling to Pocheon, Herb Island is a point that provides a night view, so it would be a good idea to plan Herb Island for the night when considering the travel route.
Pink Muhly Festival Night View |
The Pink Muhly Festival will be held from September 28, 2024. You can see it by riding a Ferris wheel attached to a tractor and going up the mountain for about 10 minutes. You can see the pink muhly field, pink sand, pink artificial trees, and night lights, and you can also see children sledding on the pink sand dunes. The Pink Muhly Festival is open until sunset at 7 PM on the day of your visit, so it is recommended to visit considering the sunset time.
Left) Santa Zone entrance, Right) Santa Zone view |
We took a tractor Ferris wheel down from Pink Muhly Hill and went to Santa Zone, which has a beautiful night view. The night view of numerous lights was spectacular. Although Christmas is still far away, when you visit Santa Zone, carols continue to flow and people take pictures with the beautiful night view as the background.
Left, center) Santa Zone night view, right) Herb Souvenir Shop |
Coming out of Santa Zone and approaching the entrance, there is a herb-related souvenir shop. Various herb-related products such as herb flowers, soap, perfume, and tea are on display, and it is full of people looking to buy gifts.

■ Traditional Liquor Museum Sansawon
Panoramic view of the Traditional Liquor Museum Sansawon |
It was a travel destination that I had been contemplating whether or not to visit since it was introduced on the Pocheon City Cultural Tourism Guide Map, but since it was close to my accommodation, I decided to visit it. I visited with high expectations since it had a very high star rating on the navigation map.
Inside the museum |
If you visit by car, the parking lot is a bit ambiguous. The parking lot for visitors is not a concrete area, but an unpaved dirt area. When you enter the museum marked as Slow Village, you will see exhibits on the history of alcohol, books, pottery, etc., and explanations on how to make alcohol. If you go down to the basement level and pay the entrance fee, you will receive a small plastic cup for tasting for the number of adults, and you can taste most of the alcohol sold at 'Baesangmyeonju' for free. You can see that the visitors buy quite a lot of alcohol at the end of the tour.
Left) Local famous house, Middle) Sansawon, Right) Slow Village souvenir |
It explains the history of alcohol, famous liquors from each region, and seasonal liquor tables, and in the outdoor liquor exhibition hall, you can see hundreds of jars that store liquor in a traditional way. After the tour, you can get makgeolli and taste it for free despite the inexpensive admission fee, so I think it is a popular travel destination for other visitors.
