museum entrance |
Jeongok Prehistory Museum displays artifacts on a variety of topics to systematically understand human evolution and Paleolithic culture, focusing on Paleolithic artifacts.
evolution of mankind |
The permanent exhibition hall displays the entire evolutionary process of mankind from Australopithecus to Homo sapiens in chronological order under the theme “The Great March of Human Evolution.” The detailed and realistic depiction of each human being made me feel as if they would come to life at any moment. In addition to humans, you can also see realistic models of ancient animals such as mammoths and rhinos.
Ötzi mummy / excavated remains / cave paintings |
We were able to learn about life in the Paleolithic era through the appearance of a mummy discovered in the Alps, excavated remains, an exhibition hall with restored caves and cave paintings, tools from the Paleolithic era, and VR experiences. The hunting scene of the Paleolithic era has been recreated, and you can see the ‘Mammoth Bone House’ made using the bones of 95 mammoths. In addition, there are various spaces such as an archeology experience room where children can experience, making it a place that children can easily access, making it a sufficient place for educational purposes.

Jaein Falls entrance |
Jaein Falls is one of Yeoncheon's geological attractions and has been designated as the Hantangang UNESCO Geopark. A stream of water came down the basalt columnar joint cliff and created a waterfall.
Shuttle bus / Shuttle bus ride / Jaein Falls Observatory |
To get to Jaein Falls, you can walk or take a shuttle bus. You have to walk 1.2km to reach Jaein Falls, and shuttle buses run every 20 minutes. The Hantangang River flows next to the road to Jaein Falls, and there are things to see such as a rock garden and a fairy bath, so we recommend walking unless it is a hot or rainy day.
Jaein Falls seen from the observatory / suspension bridge / exhibits |
Jaein Falls seen from the suspension bridge |
There is an observatory where you can enjoy the spectacular view of the waterfall, and a walking trail where you can cross the suspension bridge and get a closer look at Jaein Falls. From the suspension bridge, I was able to see the columnar joints and the waterfall at a glance.
■ Key Observatory

ㅇ 09:00 ~ 16:00 / Closed every Tuesday
ㅇ Free admission

Key Observatory |
Yeoncheon has a total of four observation decks: the Key Observatory, the Typhoon Observatory, the Rising Observatory, and the Biryong Observatory. Among them, I went to the Key Observatory, where you can see North Korea and look at exhibition materials.
The way to Key Observatory |
To visit the Key Observatory, check the visitor's personal information at the entry/exit reporting center and receive guidance on safety restrictions. In addition to entering and exiting restricted areas or military bases, as well as traveling by car, Do not enter the mountain or stay on the road. After attaching a flag to your vehicle to identify that you have entered to visit the Key Observatory, pass the Southern Limit Line and head to the Key Observatory.
Key Observatory Monument |
When you arrive at the Key Observatory, the soldier in charge will briefly explain the observatory and inform you that you cannot take pictures behind the Key Observatory building. You can see the war memorial in front of the observatory, and you can go up to the observatory and see the DMZ area at a glance. I was able to check North Korean villages and topographic maps that were close yet distant through a telescope. In the exhibition room on the first floor, materials from the Korean War, lifestyles in North Korea, and North Korean military supplies are on display, and you can also see the past and present of the military dormitories. We recommend that you visit the Key Observatory, which is also meaningful for children's history education.
■ Gorangpogu Historical Park
ㅇ 270, Jangnam-ro, Jangnam-myeon, Yeoncheon-gun, Gyeonggi-do, Republic of Korea
ㅇ 10:00 ~ 17:00 / Closed every Monday

Entrance to Gorangpogu Historical Park |
It is said that Gorangpogu has been a strategic point since the Three Kingdoms Period and was a ferry port that served as a center for material exchange through the Imjin River. In the 1930s, through material exchanges with Kaesong, it developed to the point where there were department stores, but it declined after the Korean War.
Gorangpogu Street Reproduction |
The street appearance of the 1930s has been recreated, including a ferry port, a department store, an inn, and a post office. This is an exhibition hall that even children can easily understand, with augmented reality experiences available everywhere.
VR Experience Center |
You can check out the history and records of Gorangpogu at various information and experience centers related to Yeoncheon that provide a glimpse into the history of the Korean Peninsula and Yeoncheon. VR experiences such as Yeoncheon paragliding, archery experience, and DMZ zoo are provided to help children understand more easily. Gorangpogu Historical Park is a recreation of Gorangpogu, the built-up area of Yeoncheon, where you can learn about history easily and profitably, and is full of things to see and do.
