A writer born in Hwacheonrepresents Korean poetry, a look back at Wolha Lee Taegeuk’s life and artwork

Wolha Lee Taekeuk, born in Hwacheon, is a leading writer of contemporary Korean poetry. He started his literary career with “Raspberry” in 1965, and his main works include “Sunset of the West Sea”, “March is”, and “Seagull”. Since 2007, it has cost 4 billion won to build Wolha Literary House with two floors above ground and a basement, and it has an exhibition hall, storage, living hall and multipurpose room. The exhibition hall is decorated with keepsakes, including his pipe, handwritten manuscripts and photos, all donated by his family. Also, it exhibits letters exchanged with other writers at that time such as Dujin Park, Byunghwa Jo, Sang Goo, Namjo Kim and Yunsook Mo. 

On the second floor, a poetry magazine that was first published in Korea, “Sijo Literature” by Wolha Taeguek Lee,is displayed. There is a wax figure of the author writing a manuscript and a miniature of his birthplace, which was submerged by Hwacheon dam construction. The beautiful road to here is famous for scenic drives. It offers beautiful valley scenery of Hwacheon, from Sansuhwa Tunnel to Sansuhwa-ro, Pyeonghwa-ro and Hoeum-ro.

月河李泰极是华川出身的代表韩国现代时调文学的文人。1965年发表「野草莓」并正式登坛，其主要作品有「西海上的落潮」、「三月」、「海鸥」等。2007年开始投入40多亿韩元竣工的月河文学馆在地下1层、地上2层规模，具备了展示室、收藏库、生活馆、多功能室等。展示室包括烟嘴等遗族捐赠的月河李泰极的遗物，用他的亲笔原稿与照片装饰。这里还展示着跟朴斗镇、赵炳华、具常、金南祚、毛允淑等当代文人往来的信笺。

2层展示室陈列着月河李泰极在韩国最早发刊的时调专刊『时调文学』。可以看到展现他在生前执笔原稿的情景的蜡像人、华川水库工事而浸没的旧居的小模型。走向文学馆的路，以美丽的驾车路径而闻名。经过山水画隧道，与山水画路、和平路、好音路相连接，展现着华川美丽的溪谷风景。
