INTRODUCE

The only traditional North Korean-style house of the 19th century in South Korea

Wanggok Village of Goseong in the back of, Songjiho, Jukwang-myeon, Goseong-gun is the only place that has preserved 21 traditional North Korean-style houses that were built in around the 19th century. Each house was designed for the long, cold winter. There are bedrooms, guest rooms, a living room and kitchen in the same building, and the stable is next to the kitchen, which makes an L shape. The village surrounded by five peaks did not get any bombardment during the Korean War, so it remained intact. Currently, it is the No. 235 Important Folk Data.

In this village, it seems unusual that a jar is put on the chimney of every house. It prevents the fire from moving to the thatched roof and brings back the heat to the inside of the house. Also, there is not a well. Because the village is shaped like a ship, people thought a well in the village was similar to a sinking ship with a hole. They fetched water from a spring instead of a well for many years, but recently, a well was added. You can stay in Korean traditional Han-ok in Goseong Wanggok village. However, you should follow the special instructions as it is a Korean National Treasure, not a hotel.
