A pavilion where scholars and the literate discussed poetry and literature with the Imjingang River beneath their feet, Haseokjeong

脚踏临津江，古代文人雅士讨论诗句与学问的亭子，花石亭

 
There is a lone pavilion in Papyeong-myeon of Paju City, standing on a cliff where the Imjingang River can be seen. It is Hwaseokjeong Pavilion, where Yulgok enjoyed the rest of his life discussing literature after his duty in the government. Yulgok’s descendents, Lee Huji and Lee Hubang, restored the pavilion that burnt down during the Imjin War, but it was demolished again. The present pavilion was restored thanks to the donations of Paju citizens in 1966. The letters in the signage at the center of the pavilion belong to former president Park Chunghee. Inside the pavilion hangs a poem, 'Palsebusi' written by Yulgok when he was 8 years old.

在坡州市坡平面，可以俯视临津江边的峭壁上，有一个孑然而立的亭子。栗谷李珥离开官职之后，跟弟子们一起讨论学问来度过余生的花石亭。壬辰倭乱当时被烧毁，只留下遗址，后来栗谷的曾孙-李厚址、李厚昉重新建立花石亭，但又在6.25战争时再次被烧毁，是一个心怀痛苦的地方。现在的花石亭是1966年坡州地区儒林利用捐款复原而成。建筑物正面中央的牌匾的‘花石亭’是朴正熙前总统所写。亭子内部的后侧悬挂着栗谷在八岁时在花石亭所写的<八岁赋诗>。

 
Hwaseokjeong Pavilion is where many poets and people of literature enjoyed the beautiful view and poetry. Seo Gijeong, Kwon Nam, Jeong Cheol, Song Siyeol and more visited Hwaseokjeong and read poetries. It is said that zelkova trees formed a forest around the pavilion and fishing boats were passing in the Imjingang River day and night. However, only few zelkova trees stand, and the way to Imjingang River is blocked with wire entanglements. But the view is still striking with the quiet waters of the river turning to an exit around the cliff.

花石亭除了栗谷李珥之外，也是众多文人雅士观赏临津江美丽景致并赋诗的地方。徐纪渟、权揽、郑澈、宋时烈等曾踏访花石亭做过时调。很久以前，在花石亭周围有榉树形成丛林，而临津江有捕鱼的船只不分昼夜来来往往。但是，现在只有几棵榉树孤单而立，去往临津江的道路也被铁丝网隔离。但是，临津江水静悄悄地围绕而过的峭壁上花石亭的前景美态依旧，令人更加觉得心旷神怡。
